On April 5th, 2023, members of both the Central and Northern Westchester Geriatric Committees came together for their 15th Annual Combined Networking Meeting. The featured speaker this year was Dr. Bernie Lee who spoke to members about the emerging role of cannabis for the seriously ill.
With medical cannabis now being legal in NY, it is important for us to learn about cannabis and make responsible and informed consumer choices about the newly approved product. Medical cannabis therapy is proven to safely alleviate pain and suffering without having psychogenic side effects with the proper medical supervision. Dr. Bernie Lee, an expert in Medical Marijuana, was one of the first specialists to become certified by the New York State Department of Health to certify and treat qualified patients with Medical Marijuana therapy.
Dr. Lee is double board certified in Family Medicine, as well as, Hospice and Palliative Medicine. As a West Point Academy graduate, he served in the US Army as an active-duty armor officer. He then completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at New York University and earned his medical degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine.
Dr. Lee is a strong physician advocate of medical cannabis and is leading the charge to educate physicians on its safe and effective use in order to help alleviate the suffering of patients with chronic and terminal illnesses. As a believer in the benefits of Integrative Medicine, he is also a New York State Certified Medical Acupuncturist.
